Almost a year after the Mitsubishi Montero Sport have been released with an All-New engine dubbed as the 4N15 that replaced the venerable 4D56 of the olden days, this new diesel motor that displaces less but produces more power compared to the 4D56 has come its way to the Strada.

Currently the said engine is only available to the top of the line GT model. But let’s take a look also to the other minor changes Mitsubishi made to the Strada after being available in the market for a while.Exterior wise, this GT model came with a more rugged look. From the blacked out grills to the Ralliart sourced skid plate, this Strada looks it will chew trails that will hinder it.

The new two-tone wheels wrapped with all-terrain tires gives the Strada a distinct look to that makes it stand-out from the lower variants. To complete its rugged look, Mitsubishi included a brush guard, driving lights, bed mounted rollbar, bed cover and silver fender flares. Overall, this new variant of the Strada not only looks good, but also serves its purpose whenever you are on or off the road.Since the last generation, Stradas are known for its very car like interior appointment and space. This new generation Strada certainly continues that legacy with added conveniences like an updated infotainment system and more space for the occupants.

New to the GT model Strada is the addition of 7 airbags. Yes, you heard it right, seven airbags to protect you from harm. There is two for the front passengers, two for the side, a pair of curtain airbags and a driver knee airbag. Certainly a first in its class for this safety feature.

Talking about safety, the Strada also features Mitsubishi Active Stability Control or M-ATSC to cancel out any instability on this pick-up truck’s body when emergency maneuvers are made. Standard safety features like anti-lock braking system and electronic brake distribution are also included in this variant.Probably the most significant change and the highlight of this GT model is the 2.4 liter MIVEC diesel engine that was first used in the Montero Sports.

Rated at 181 horsepower and 430 newton meter of torque, this new engine is slightly more powerful compared to the old diesel engine found in the Strada’s engine bay while having less displacement. One of the main tag line of this engine is how efficient and clean it is compared to the competition since this engine is the first and only one in the category to feature variable valve timing in a diesel engine.

Being top of the line means this new engine is mated to a 5 speed automatic transmission while all its power is transmitted to the ground via Mitsubishi’s own Super Select II 4WD system. With its new found power paired to one of the best 4WD systems out there for off-road use, the Mitsubishi Strada GT certainly will be an easy choice for those people with an active life style without sacrificing too much for city use.
